Mali-G52 MC2 vs PowerVR GE8320

The PowerVR GE8320 and ARM's Mali-G52 MC2 are two popular GPUs that are present in a number of MediaTek chips, notably the new Helio G series SOCs.

If you are curious about the difference in their gaming performance, you've arrived at the right place.

Both the GPUs aren't actually designed by MediaTek but their IP has been licensed from ARM and PowerVR. Unlike Qualcomm and Apple, MediaTek doesn't design their own GPUs.

But if you're in a hurry and don't want to go through the entire text, you should know that there is a massive performance difference between the two.

Performance Review

Centurion Mark

Centurion Mark represents the overall performance of this GPU. This score is based on real-world gaming performance of the GPU.

Mali-G52 MC2 81.6
PowerVR GE8320 51.3

Synthetic Benchmarks

Synthetic benchmarks measure the compute performance and the 3D rendering capabilities of a GPU.

Antutu GPU Score

Mali-G52 MC2 42741
PowerVR GE8320 13245

Geekbench 5 Vulkan Score

Mali-G52 MC2 1159
PowerVR GE8320 82

On both real-world gaming benchmarks and synthetic tests, the difference between the two GPUs is massive. On the Geekbench Vulkan Compute test, Mali-G52 MC2 is more than 14 times faster!

Even the performance difference in real-world gaming is exceptionally high. So, if you're someone for whom GPU performance (Both Compute and Gaming) matters a lot, the Mali G52 is clearly a better choice.

Both the GPUs have two Compute Units but the faster one in this comparison has a significantly higher Clock Speed.

The difference is not just due to the difference in clock speeds but due to the fact that they are based on an entirely different architecture. The ARM's Bifrost architecture has significantly higher IPC as compared to Imagination's Series8XEP.

It is not only better in performance, but also supports newer Graphics and Video Playback APIs. SOCs like Helio G85, Helio G80, and Helio G70 have the G52 MC2 GPU while the Helio G35, Helio G25, Helio A22, and Helio P22 are equipped with GE8320.

Can it Run these Games?

Game Mali-G52 MC2 PowerVR GE8320

PowerVR GE8320 runs a lot of Android Games like Asphalt 8, Asphalt 9, Free Fire, and Subway Surfers just fine but it struggles when we switch to high-end games like PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, and Free Fire.

On the other hand, the ARM Mali-G52 MC2 can run nearly every Android game well with the exception of Fortnite.

If you need a phone for basic gaming, the GE8320 can be a decent choice but not if you're looking to run graphically intensive games.

Which one is Better?

Mali-G52 MC2 is winner against PowerVR GE8320

As you can see in the above image, the Mali G52 MC2 is significantly powerful than the PowerVR GE8320. Choosing it would be the right decision for most of the users out there.

But if you're on a strict budget and don't care about high-end Gaming, the GE8320 can also do the job just as fine. It all depends on whether you care about high-end gaming or not.
